WHY IS CASTING IMPORTANT?
Casting is important because you need to make sure you have the right person playing the right role. If you don't have the right person playing the right role then it could massively affect how your film flows as a story and the way it is watched by the consumers, it could make it look unprofessional, and could make the director unpopular.
HOW SHOULD THE CAST BE ASSIGNED TO SPECIFIC ROLES AND WHY?
In our trailer it meets the typical conventions of a horror, with 3 females and one male, we used 3 female victims throughout our film trailer because they are usually known as the weaker characters when shown in a horror film, this consequently worked out better than using male victims since men are seen as stronger. Furthermore we used an anonymous killer to keep mystery throughout our trailer, we used black clothing and dark lighting to show this and to hide the killer for the audience. Our females were young and pretty, showing their vulnerability the character seen the most is blonde, since blondes are seen as the dumbest or the clumsiest, again meeting typical conventions. Our male character is a young black boy, although he is not seen as much in the trailer questions could be asked as if he was the killer, again meeting conventions.
OUR CAST:
We chose to use Kai within our trailer because we wanted to have a male figure in our trailer, also it helps the audience ask questions to if he is the killer or not
|
We chose to use Emily in our trailer because she is young and blonde, blonde characters are typically the victims due to their clumsiness.
|
We chose to use Molly in our trailer because she is also young and pretty, again typically seen as a victim in horror.
|
We chose to use Brittany in our trailer because she is young and pretty, she is also brunette so seeing her as an victim is interesting.
