We watched a series of horror trailers and counted up each of the different shots, we the worked out the average length of the shot by dividing the length of the trailer by how many shots we counted. At the end we added up all the lengths of shots that we had found and calculated an average.
HUSH 2016
Hush (2016), this trailer was 1 minute 58 seconds (118 seconds), the number of shots that we counted in this trailer was 47 shots. When we divided the number of shots by the length of the trailer, we got the length of each shot at 2.5 seconds.
BLAIR WITCH 2016
Blair Witch (2016), this trailer was 2 minutes 2 seconds (122 seconds), the number of shots that we counted in this trailer was 71 shots. When we divided the number of shots by the length of the trailer, we got the length of each shot at 1.7 seconds.
DON'T BREATHE 2016

AVERAGE LENGTH OF SHOTS PER TRAILER
We added up all of the average lengths of shots that we found for each trailer, although we did not include our anomalie (Annabelle 2, 4.6 second shots). The total came to a total of 19, we then divided this by 5 to find our average as this was the number of trailer examples that we were using. We came out with an average of 1.461... which we rounded up to 1.5 second shots.
This was a useful exercise for us as it help us to see how long we should be looking at making our shots, by making the shots this quick and snappy it helps to build the intensity and create an atmosphere. It also helps the trailer to be interesting without giving away too much of the film.
